Accessibility Guide
New Relic — Creating an accessible product is crucial to ensure that all users, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, can access and use our features and capabilities effectively. By following accessibility principles, we can improve the user experience for everyone.
Why do we need it?
Over 1 billion people worldwide have some form of disability. This translates to about 15% of the world’s population. Among people aged 65 or older, 46% have a disability and 76% of users in the US alone use some form of vision correction. Accessible design often leads to a better user experience for all users, not just those with disabilities. For instance, features developed for accessibility, such as clear fonts and intuitive navigation, benefit everyone. 71% of users with a disability will leave a website immediately if it’s not accessible.
How does this design solve the problem?
In 2023, I developed and published New Relic’s first Accessibility Guidelines for Designers and Developers, accompanied by a Figma component library designed to support internal teams in creating more accessible designs. This initiative contributed to New Relic’s first Accessibility Audit and played a role in achieving the company’s highest product accessibility ratings to date.
